Unified Voice and Data|Blog|Uncategorized|STOP USING A PERSONAL LINE FOR BUSINESS CALLS

It can be very tempting to use your personal mobile or home landline for business calls. When setting up a business it is convenient, as well as cheaper just to use the same line and number. It is also one less thing to have to organise when there are many competing tasks to complete. However, there are many reasons why using a personal line is not good for business:

  1. It can make you more vulnerable

Putting personal details such as your mobile phone number on your website can make you more vulnerable to threats for example phishing scams or hackers who may already have other personal details. You may also get more junk or robocalls if you display it online. However, if you use a second separate number for business this means your personal one need not be in the public domain. If you choose to use a virtual phone or cloud system for example, calls from certain numbers can also be rejected or blocked reducing the time wasted by such unnecessary calls.

  1. It limits communication opportunities

Once you have chosen the number to use for your business it is not a good idea to change it. Customers may become confused by this, it will make any previous marketing material out of date and it could also affect reputation. Employing a separate number from the start will help you and your business to avoid these pitfalls.

  1. The lines between work and personal life are blurred

It can be hard to achieve a work-life balance as it is. Using the same phone for both makes this a lot more difficult as calls can come through at any time meaning it is very difficult to switch off at the end of the day.
